Greetings Birders!

During these dynamic times, we can rely on the changing of the seasons as a true marker of time, and spring has indeed returned here to Kachemak Bay!  While birders are unable to gather in-person this year, we continue to honor the shorebirds who gather to feed on the shores of Kachemak Bay.  Welcome to our virtual meeting place to celebrate the ancient, epic, seasonal migration of shorebirds, marking springtime in Alaska.

The 28th annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival is taking place online in hopes that you can connect with our beloved shorebirds wherever you are.  Report sightings, follow our daily Birders’ Blog, and view the real-time sightings map to follow what’s flying through Kachemak Bay!  Activities and “events” will be added throughout the weekend.  You can show your support for the Festival by purchasing your 2020 Festival gear, bidding on our 6×6 Bird Art & Trip Auction, or joining the Crane Club.  Share your shorebird celebration with the Festival community by using #KBayShorebird2020 in your social media posts.

We wish you health and happiness this spring season as we gather online for the 28th annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival.

Happy Birding,

“To [virtually] stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shorebirds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for untold thousands of years . . . is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be.”
